FAQs

  • My diploma exclusively taught me in-person colour analysis. This was a conscious decision for me. I feel online assessments have two notable limitations.

Firstly, they depend on the quality of an unprofessional photograph. Having worked in marketing for years, I know that digital colour representation isn't true to life. Even with the correct white balance and natural light, a camera cannot mimic the human eye’s vision for colour and skin quality i.e. it's translucency, sheen or opacity to give just a few examples. And that's before automatic filters are overlaid on top of the raw image. (Have you ever noticed your photo flicks from the original image to a more highly contrasted mildly filtered image a fraction of a second after you view it? That's an automatic function on your phone, you have to dive down into the settings to get your phone to save an untweaked version.)

Secondly, that representation of your image is then used for putting into coloured virtual "frames". You can't see the physical skin changes (positive and negative) when coloured light hits the face from the drapes, which is key for a correct undertone result. An online assessment is based on a coloured pixel next to another coloured pixel, there is no light or colour interaction. Personally, I see virtual tools as closer in method to the 90s "type" colour analysis methods which I feel were deeply flawed.

It's a lot of fun to play around with analysis apps but paying for an online colour analysis has too many what-ifs for me to trust the results. My certified colour analysis training is based wholly on face to face assessments which, in my opinion, gives the most accurate colour analysis assessment possible.

  • The short answer is that it is highly unlikely. However, maturity or illness can bring with it skin changes (age spots, translucency, more texture/capillaries) and hair colour changes. Going grey, for instance, will not change your skin undertone, but it could change your value (light-dark) and hue contrast levels, shifting you to a different sub-season for instance. You can still enjoy all of the colours in your original season, they will still flatter you, but you may find that a refresher colour analysis after a major change in your natural colouring may lean you towards a more muted/saturated or lighter palette, for instance. If you’re interested in a refresher assessment, get in touch.

  • Absolutely, you can have a colour analysis with any skin condition. I regularly work with individuals of all skin types and those living with skin conditions.

I have experience of devising personal colour analysis appointments taking into account clients’ rosacea, acne, impetigo, scarring, and hyperpigmentation among others.

As part of the appointment we can discuss which colours to wear to reduce the appearance of these, if desired.

  • My colour analysis appointments are tailored to each individual. For male colour analysis sessions, the make-up section of the consultation is generally substituted for work/smart dressing i.e. suits and tailoring. If this is not desired, there is also an option to bring a small selection of garments for me to seasonally colour-match at the close of the session.

  • Nope. I’m gloriously independent. I dance to the beat of my own drum and have built my colour analysis methods to flex around my clients, not policies and products.

  • My sessions are priced competitively and include 12 season analysis draping, make-up suggestions, wardrobe/outfit advice. Your digital seasonal colour palette is included in the price.

Most people can flick through their clothes at home and find unused, brand new and worn-once garments that add up to far more than a colour analysis session. Colour analysis can completely irradicate that excess, superfluous spend in the future, helping you only buy pieces that will look great on you and work with all your existing pieces.

In addition it is one of the most affordable investments in personal development available and, in my opinion, one with instant gratification and endless practicality and application.

  • Typically, a single-person consultation lasts between 1.5 - 2 hours. A dual appointment is closer to 3 hours.

Current clients, if you wish to book in to explore a particular occasion outfit or wardrobe change, reach out via the contact form.

  • I take qualifications seriously. My skills are my business and I don’t believe in scrimping on education. I hold a Diploma with Commendation in Advanced Colour Analysis as well as doing 200+ hours of colour theory and scientific/biological research before launching Colour Analysis Berkshire. I am committed to continue to grow my knowledge of colour and offering the most accurate, detailed, personal Colour Analysis service possible.

  • This comes down to the level of detail you desire. Ultimately 4 season analysis is about narrowing down your choices, excluding colours that don’t suit you. 12 season is focused on finding your 100% harmonious colours. It’s a small difference but as we know in colour analysis, small differences can mean the world.

A 4 season assessment will have assessed your undertone and intensity. What it won’t have done is looked at why certain colours work for you as a true individual. 12 season analysis looks for your dominant colour characteristic/s and can be very particular about colours which work with your unique features, as well as suggesting neighbouring “sister” season colours to broaden your palette.

There is a stark difference between, for example, the intense poster-paint colours of Bright Spring, versus the pale, pastel tones within the Light Spring palette. Being Spring, a person will look good in warm, clean colours but, by knowing the correct sub-season, they will always look their absolute best with confidence because their palette matches the colour hue, intensity and value of their features. Plus, once you have a wardrobe in palette, dressing is an absolute breeze, because all your garments are in harmony with not only you, but each other too.
